Hello, and thank you for visiting Little Aid. I take it you have done so because you have a baby (or one on the way), or you are a grandparent or babysitter, and are searching for peace of mind. Well done, this is a serious topic, but should really be so simple!
Let's start with how Little Aid was created…
In 2000 I began working for the ambulance service and loved it! It was fast paced and I got a lot of satisfaction at the end of my shift knowing I’d somehow made a difference in people’s lives that day. I enjoyed 6 years there in total.
Unfortunately a LOT of parents and carers calling 000 didn’t know the simplest of first aid which not only would have helped their little patient, but also calmed themselves down dealing with the situation. I felt something should, and could be done about this… Not long into my career there I became a Workplace Trainer which included gaining professional qualifications to instruct. This included first aid training qualifications as well as full-time courses for new recruits on the 000 line for ambulance.
In 2003, I became a mother for the first time to my beautiful daughter Brooke.
During Brooke’s first years, we had a few trips to the hospital such as a burn, two dislocations, febrile convulsions, a head injury and choking. I thanked my lucky stars that as a first-time mother I knew what to do each time.
In 2005 I had our second daughter, Jemma, who also tested my skills requiring much first aid including choking, severe bleeding, and a poisoning scare as well as some unforeseen illnesses. As a mother I was able to stay calm and deal with each situation with confidence. I really wanted to give this confidence to other new parents!
Meanwhile, I became a first aid trainer for major organisations on a casual basis, usually the 2 full days for Registered Training Organisations (RTOs), signing off on first aid qualifications for members of the public. I loved this challenge, became even more passionate about it, and found that my previous experience was extremely valuable. People would ask a lot of questions of me not only on a professional level, but also with my personal experience as a mother. This, I felt, was so important!
In 2008 I did some research to find out why people didn’t get around to learning something so important when it came to their babies. I did months of research to combat each and every reason… Little Aid was born.
We travel to you days, evenings and weekends, 7 days per week, to ALL areas of Melbourne and regional Victoria.
We're proud of Little Aid's success over the years, made possible by our excellent trainers with a passion for educating new parents. Much of our growth has been through direct recommendations from nurses and paediatricians. Little Aid teaches courses to several councils through their Maternal & Child Health centres and have loyally done so for 4 years.
In 2012 we are working to have more wonderful trainers throughout Australia so we can meet the growing demand we have experienced interstate. We're very excited that the little idea all those years ago has been embraced so warmly and still keep in touch with many from our very first courses back in 2008!
On behalf of all our trainers, we look forward to giving you peace of mind in 2012 and beyond! And if you have any questions then do not hesitate to contact us.
